Finally done- The cove lighting at the top of the wall is not green- it just looks that way in these pictures!!

Well, the colors in these pictures are anything but true to life!! The cove lighting looks neon green in every picture when in fact its nearly colorless. It's just a warm glow that surrounds the room. The paint is a bluish, greenish grey depending on how you look at it, but some how in the pictures it looks like a hospital blue-- yuck! I guess if you really want to experience it for yourselves you will just have to come and visit...

We still need some finishing touches. Some floor and table lamps will be added as well as some art work, but for now most of the major work is done. We couldn't be happier to be back home. I think we are both still in shock over how beautiful it turned out!

There is a missing cabinet panel in the front of the sink- it will be added very soon...(there are still a few more things to do)!

New living room- We had to get rid of the fire place but now the space doesn't need angled furniture to make sense. By loosing the fire place we actually were able to free up a lot more space and make the walk way between the kitchen and the living room more practical

The room on the left (see picture below) use to be the kitchen. We moved the kitchen forward and added pocketing doors and created a new TV room/ Guest bedroom.

We had a little fun with the colors in the TV room. The room is quite small, about 9x10, so it's really hard to get pictures in there. We cut a hole in the wall and used one of the upper cabinets in the kitchen to house the TV equipment. We still want to build a smoky glass door for that, but we haven't gotten to that yet. The You can remove the chase part of the sofa and then it folds out in to a full size bed. It is supposedly the most comfortable sofa bed ever made. Esther, what do you say??

Another few days.......

We are moving in on Sat. They started putting in counters today. They look awesome! Tomorrow they finish countertops, plumbing gets finished and the housekeeper comes Thursday. They have to take Thursday and Friday off to work on another job of mine and will come back to install appliances on Saturday while we move!

I can't wait!!!!

What's going on over there???

I know you guys are wondering what the hell it's looking like over here, but I've decided you're just going to have to wait! The paint is almost done. It's looking amazing! What a difference a smooth wall finish makes! Wait until you see the crazy TV room! The kitchen counters go in on Monday! Some new furniture is delivered on Tuesday! Everything is looking beautiful! But, i feel a picture will be better when the finished product is installed. Not that any project is ever finished. In fact, we are out of money and there are a few things that will have to wait....such as, art for the walls, wallpaper for the front of the island, some new lights, rugs, and the list could go on and on, but I won't bore you! The list of things construction wise that need to be done to this old house is even longer and way more expensive, but for now we'll just enjoy our new kitchen, flooring and TV room and hope that we can keep our house in this crazy economy.

The house truly has some lacking quality features that we never noticed. Today we found out that when the previous owners installed the new "California" closet, they removed a wall between the two bedrooms. I guess they just figured it probably wasn't structural since it was in the middle of the house, wrong! I had never noticed my sloping ceilings, but now that they've been pointed out, it's really obvious. We are going to have to unexpectedly tare down the sheet rock and put in a header and some two by fours to create a wall! It's all good, at this point it's only money.....

Counters Templated

So the countertops were templated on Wen. It takes 2 weeks minimum for them to fabricate. We are getting a product called Ceaserstone which is a quarts resin composite, it's comparable to granite in durability, heat resistance and price but it is a bit more contemporary as it doesn't have all that crazy color variation or veining in it. The color we went with is ment to look like concrete. I'd love to have done concrete but it's actually a lot more expensive and a nightmare to take care of. There were a lot of materials that id have loved to have had actually but this was the best we could afford. Again, this process is paining me because of all the things that I put into my clients homes that i can't afford to put into my own home...i know cry me a river right!

So tomorrow they start painting! The floors were hopefully done today... they were a pain in the butt and took a lot longer then anyone expected but they are beautiful. They will still need four coats of poly before we can call it completely done.

Cabinets and flooring going in Day #46

The cabinets and flooring are being installed. This is a really time consuming part of the project because there are a lot of unexpected complications that need to be figured out. The cabinets are always a challenge. Little things need to be tweaked and rearranged in order to be perfect. The floor has a weird issue with looking different from different directions so it has to be turned 180 degrees to look the same as the adjacent tiles.. We only figured that out after installing a few hundred square feet. Hopefully we'll have enough to replace those pieces.

All I want for my Bday is my House! (day #31)

Living room- the fire place use to be there. We took it out because it threw off the symmetry and furniture plan off the room. We could have left on the dry wall, but i hate the look of texture so instead of trying to sand it all down to fix it we just removed it. Who ever did the construction before did a really half ass job, so there was quite a bit to fix....

All lighting and electrical is done and Sheetrock is going back up!!!!
This is the sink wall of the kitchen. (Below)

Recessed cans are installed in the ceiling and the ceiling is reinforced.

Pocket door hardware is installed in TV room
